These paintings are a direct conversation with Kandinsky
and his colour studies from the early 1900's. I seem to be
a bit of a colour hedonist. Having worked with glass I couldn't
transition straight to canvas so I introduced Plexiglas attached
to the canvas with a spacer separating the two surfaces. The
viewer is also subtly revealed in the Plexiglas and becomes
part of the work through looking.
The circular and elliptical rings evoke macro and micro familiarities
for me. On the grand scale they can be read as big bang or
galactic paintings. Growing smaller in scale they resemble
topographical surveys and smaller still, they are reminiscent
of neurological imagery that shows the active areas of the
brain.
For me colour and energy are inextricably connected.
